Join John Gilbert for a discussion about the facets of interprofessional education for person centred collaborative practice and care as they pertain to building new health and social care systems that are focused on patients as partners.

Outcomes for Participants:

By the end of this TUFH Symposium, the participants will be able to:

  1. Define interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) and how these should align with the provision of health & social care services.
  2. Outline why health and social care professionals should be concerned with interprofessional education and collaborative practice.
  3. Describe some innovative, system transforming solutions that will help shape or influence IPECP in health and social care systems.

Bio of Presenters:

John Gilbert

Dr. John Gilbert has been a seminal leader in the education of health professionals in British Columbia, Canada and globally. His vision and leadership led to the concept of interprofessional education being developed as a central tenet of collaborative person-centred practice and care. Dr. Gilbert was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada, Canada’s highest civilian award, in July 2011. He received the degree Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa from Dalhousie University in June 2016. He was the recipient of the Pioneer Award, National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education, USA, 2017 for his ground-breaking work in advancing the field of interprofessional practice and education
