Event Details

The symposium will provide an overview of medical education in Africa and the challenges and opportunities facing new medical schools. Over 100 such new schools are predicted to open on the continent within the next ten years. Will they all succeed? What factors will determine their success? How will these schools compare and contrast with each other with respect to curricula, admissions policies, faculty development, research development, postgraduate training programs? The Consortium of New Sub-Saharan Africa Medical Schools (CONSAMS) was formed in 2011 to cater to the needs of these new medical schools. Following an introductory overview, leaders from 3 new African medical schools from different continental regions will present unique perspectives as case studies.
